One Foot In Front Of The Other

A response to Secret Paisley

This is our place.
Places hold things.
Things we said and did.
Things we forgot we said and did.
Things we’ve still to say and do.

One Foot in Front of the Other is the product of Secret Paisley, a project inspired by lockdown and us being more appreciative of what’s on our doorstep.

Secret Paisley was an invitation to get outside and share hidden parts of Paisley, culminating in a short film shot across the town’s streets.

We invited local people to share pictures and stories of Paisley that are lesser known. Taking inspiration from them, we created One Foot in Front of the Other.

A daily walk that helps keep the heid.
A step out the door for the first time in a long time.

The short takes you into the minds of two locals navigating their thoughts and feelings as we begin to re-emerge from a period of time in our own ‘boxes’, behind screens and away from the noise.

We didn’t want to force a story but instead capture some of the thoughts we’ve all been feeling recently. It’s about embracing what’s on our doorstep, taking a walk and ultimately, a breath.

We’re thankful to those who shared images and experiences to inspire the end film.

Who brought the project to life?

The project is led by Paisley-based theatre-maker Jordan Blackwood (click ‘about’ at the top of this page for more info) in collaboration with writer Daniel Cameon.

We worked with a brilliant team to bring One Foot in Front of the Other to life:

Performed by Dani Heron & Elaine McNicol
Cinematography & Editing by Fraser Scott (KTD Digital)
Sound Recording by Alexander Waddell

We’re grateful to Renfrewshire Leisure and Future Paisley for supporting this project.
