Rep Stripped
A festival of new work | Dundee Rep Theatre | Director | 18th - 27th April 2019
About
Rep Stripped was a new festival showcasing the best as-yet-unseen stories for the stage from Dundee and across the country in a stripped back, intimate environment. The concept behind the festival was to offer a playing space for local and national artists to test out their ideas, and a unique experience for an audience to be the first to see them.
As the director of the project, I programmed and developed the festival in collaboration with producer Carla Marina Almeida. I directed work across the festival, including Daniel Cameron’s CARAVAN.
Programme
I am proud to have celebrated the work of theatre makers across Dundee and Scotland, with a programme of over 30 writers, directors, solo artists and companies. The programme boasted new plays-in-the-making; work-in-progress sharings of new musicals; early developments of new devised shows; puppetry; site-specific work; physical theatre; and more including a workshop programme from National Theatre of Scotland and Playwrights’ Studio Scotland.
I was especially proud to be developing and directing Daniel Cameron’s new play CARAVAN, which had a few sharings across the festival, being redrafted between each in response to audience and creative feedback.

In The Papers
“With the festival pulled together from an open call-out, the sheer level of activity on offer is an impressively mammoth operation for Almeida and Blackwood to oversee, especially given that both are themselves at the early stages of their careers.”
“This Festival’s model is new for theatre in Scotland; focusing more on sharing ideas and learning from audiences and other artists, than on presenting the most polished performances. “We’re encouraging collaboration,” says Blackwood, “and we’re pushing the idea that artists are constantly developing at every stage of their careers.””
